If you have recently been in a car accident, we can examine your neck, spine and any joint pain to determine if you have any resulting injuries.
Some of the most common types of Car Accident Injuries our Chiropractors at Eastgate Chiropractic Treat:
Auto Accident Injuries: Car accident can cause numerous problems with the spine and neck even if you have no external signs of injuries
  • Herniated Discs
  • Sciatica
  • Spinal Stenosis
  • Whiplash
Herniated Discs: A herniated disc refers to a problem with one of the rubbery cushions (discs)
between the individual bones (vertebrae) that stack up to make your spine. Issues with the spine can arise and you might not even know it. During a car accident for example, individuals are bounced between seatbelts and the seat back and this can frequently cause arm and leg pain, numbness or tingling and weakness. Fortunately, most of these aliments can be fixed with consistent chiropractic care, and not with surgery.
Sciatica: Herniated or bulging discs can put pressure on the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve is
a long nerve that runs from the base of the spine through the buttocks (hips) and down the legs to
the feet. Sciatica can cause pain in the lower back, legs and feet.
Spinal Stenosis: Spinal stenosis occurs when the pathways housing the nerves narrow. This causes the nerve to become compressed and irritated. Spinal stenosis can be agitated during a car accident because injuries to the muscles and soft tissues in the back contribute to inflammation, which further compresses the nerve.
Whiplash: Car accidents are notorious for causing whiplash. This is a loss of the normal
curve in the neck and can be detected on X-ray. When a car impacts another car or an object, the
car abruptly stops. Unfortunately, your body remains in motion until all the excess energy
dissipates. This causes the head to forcefully bounce against the headrest and jerk forward as far
as the cervical vertebrae, ligaments and muscles allow. This misaligns the cervical vertebrae and
stretches all the muscles, ligaments and tendons far beyond their normal range of motion.
Symptoms of whiplash include severe headaches, migraines, neck stiffness, and pain in the neck
and upper back. In extreme cases, individuals can even experience tingling and numbness in
their arms.
