Dry needling is a form of therapy in which fine needles are inserted into the myofascial
trigger points (painful knots in muscles, tendons, ligaments, or nerves) in order to stimulate a healing response in painful musculoskeletal conditions. Dry needling is NOT acupuncture. Dry needling is a modern science-based intervention for the treatment of pain and dysfunction of musculoskeletal conditions such as neck pain, shoulder impingement, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel, headaches, knee pain, plantar fasciitis, TMJ disorder, low back/hip pain, or numbness/tingling into extremities.
Dry needling may provide relief for some muscular pain and stiffness. In addition, easing the trigger points may improve flexibility and increase range of motion. That's why this method is often used to treat whiplash, sports injuries, muscle pain, and even fibromyalgia pain.
How long does dry needling take to work? Although you may have some soreness after a
dry needling session, you will often notice some improvement in your symptoms within 24-48 hours.
