Whiplash: Car accidents are notorious for causing whiplash. This is a loss of the normal
curve in the neck and can be detected on X-ray. When a car impacts another car or an object, the
car abruptly stops. Unfortunately, your body remains in motion until all the excess energy
dissipates. This causes the head to forcefully bounce against the headrest and jerk forward as far
as the cervical vertebrae, ligaments and muscles allow. This misaligns the cervical vertebrae and
stretches all the muscles, ligaments and tendons far beyond their normal range of motion.
Symptoms of whiplash include severe headaches, migraines, neck stiffness, and pain in the neck
and upper back. In extreme cases, individuals can even experience tingling and numbness in
their arms.
